Add Users to a Class via Registration Codes

Kidblog is organized around classes where students' posts are contained. To maintain a multi-year portfolio for students, next year's teacher should use the existing  student accounts in the new class. The best way to set up a new group of students who already have Kidblog content is through our class code feature.

Teachers:

1. Create a new class for your students (under your Dashboard, click on Create New Class)

2. In the new class control panel, look for the the Class Code area under the Settings tab. If there isn't a class code in the box, press "regenerate."

3. Select "Yes" to "Users can join class using code" to allow your students to register with the class code. Be sure to save your settings.

4. Give the code to your students.

Students who already have Kidblog accounts can join additional classes:

1. Log in via the existing (previous term's) class. If necessary, search for the login page by teacher email.

2. Click on the "My Classes" link under the Dashboard tab in the student control panel.

3. At the top of the screen, enter the code for the new class to automatically join it.

New students without Kidblog accounts can create a user account and join a class

1. Click on the Secret Code button on the Kidblog home page

2. Enter code.

3. Create a new display name and password or use a Google Apps account.

Logging In

***PLEASE NOTE*** After students join your class with a registration code, they will never need to enter that code again. (Doing so will actually create a duplicate user account in your class.) To prevent extraneous registrations, disable the code under the Settings tab after all students have joined.

Future logins should occur via the regular login page for your class. Your students can log in by clicking the "Log In" link at the upper-right corner at your unique class URL (e.g. kidblog.org/YourClass).

I'm still confused about creating a class list...I've created an csv spreadsheet with the students in my class but am unsure if they'll be logging in using the code or logging in using their teacher created password

Jennifer (Hammond),

The Settings menu is visible after you log in at your class URL and click "Control Panel" in the upper right corner of the screen (in the top blue bar).

I can't find/remember my code, and I don't see the Control Panel in the upper right corner.

Also, I can't figure out how to create a second class.

When creating a class, do you just give your kids the registration code so they can create their own passwords & username. Or do we input their names and create passwords for each student? And should those passwords be different for each child? Unfortunately, I'm confused, too.

Jamie,

If students use a registration code, they create their own display name and password (which you can modify if necessary). If you set up student accounts manually, they don't need registration codes - just the password you set for them. In short, choose one or the other.

Either way, each student should have a different password for security. Using the same password for all students invites accidental logins as a classmate.
